Longissimus dorsi muscles (LM) were frozen in liquid nitrogen immediately and stored at -80 ℃ until further use.

Meishan pigs were all fed using standard commercial practices. Pig fetuses were collected from Meishan pregnant females at 65dpc and fetuses of the same female pigs were seen as an individual. All pigs were sacrificed at slaughterhouse (Center of Quality Test and Supervision for Breeding Swine, Wuhan, MOA ), the longissimus dorsi muscles (LM) were harvested according to the four developmental stages

Biotinylated cRNA were prepared according to the standard Affymetrix protocol from 6 ug total RNA (Expression Analysis Technical Manual, 2001, Affymetrix).

| Hybridization protocol |
Following fragmentation, 10 ug of cRNA were hybridized for 16 hr at 45C on Affymetrix Porcine Genome GeneChip. GeneChips were washed and stained in the Affymetrix Fluidics Station 400.

GeneChips were scanned using the Affymetrix ® GeneChip® Scanner 3000.

| Data processing |
The expression values for each gene were acquired using the GeneChip Operating System (GCOS 1.4, Affymetrix). Data normalization and filtering were carried out with DNA-Chip Analyzer (dChip).
