This project will sequence Medaka fish hatchlings from F2 cross experiments where the parent fish phenotypes display differences in heart beat frequency across a temperature gradient. The parent stains are crossed and taken through F1 and F2 generations. The phenotype distributions of individuals in the F1 generation are intermediate between parent phenotypes and those in the F2 are spread back across the range. This suggests that there is likely to be sufficient phenotype differences in the F2 generation to allow mapping of specific genetic regions that could be driving phenotypic differences. We will sequence all low coverage the F2 generations and map distinct recombination blocks with the aim of uncovering genetics contributing to this heart phenotype.
