Design: Fragment Library of Nannochloropsis gaditana whole genomic DNA (i.e. includes DNA from the nucleus and from the organelles). GS FLX sequencing using Titanium XL sequencing kit, 2 half plates (HBUY14T02.sff ; HCVVPHW02.sff). Microalgae culturing and DNA extraction were performed in Padova at "CRIBI genomics", while library preparation and sequencing were performed at "The Ramaciotti Centre for Gene Function Analysis"

This is a marine microalga widely used in various industrial applications as food and feed additive. It has been shown to be suitable for production of algal biofuel, due to its ease of growth and high oil content. It has also been shown to be suitable for genetic manipulation. Because of these traits, this microalga is now studied in many laboratories and has become a model organism for investigating algal biofuel. In this project we sequenced the nuclear genome and the genomes of the organelles of Nannochloropsis gaditana strain B-31, which is the original strain isolated by Lubián and conserved at the Instituto Español de Oceanografía (IEO). We assembled the genome almost to chromosome level and we provided an annotation of the genes based on both experimental evidence (RNA-Seq data) and gene prediction.
