SciENcv Has Made Updates to Support the End of the NIH Leniency Period
NIH will end the acceptance of the legacy NIH Biosketch format for all Just-In-Time (JIT), Research Performance Progress Report (RPPR), and Prior Approval submissions on May 7, 2026 NOT-OD-26-079.
The SciENcv team has introduced improvements to support compliance with Common Forms requirements and added several requested features, including Research Security Training (RST) certification, multiple options for adding your ORCID iD to SciENcv documents, and Markdown support.
Updates
Zero Person Months Add to NIH Current and Pending (Other) Support (April 2026) - Users can now enter “0” person months for a specific year when completing SciENcv documents, making it easier to accurately report projects with no measurable level of effort.
Research Security Training (RST) certification added back (April 2026) - Certification is required for documents with due dates on or after May 25, 2026. SciENcv documents created before April 22, 2026, must be recertified. Documents that have already been submitted do not need to be resubmitted.
Added to XML Tag Schema: ORCID, eRA Commons, and NSF IDs (April 2026) - The XML tag schema now supports ORCID, eRA Commons, and NSF IDs, making it easier to include and work with these identifiers in XML documents. Learn more here
Manual ORCID Entry (February 2026) - Users can now manually enter their 16-digit ORCID iD in the “Identifying Information, Organization, and Location” modal. Linking via authentication remains the recommended method for automated data population, but this update allows users and delegates to enter an ORCID iD without authentication when required. Markdown support for Free Text Fields (February 2026) - Markdown syntax is now supported across all SciENcv agency Common Forms in free text fields. This allows for improved text styling and organization. Please note, markdown characters will not count towards a field's total character count or limit. View Markdown Formatting Instructions
My Profile Updates (January 2026) - The "My Profile" section now aligns with Common Forms. Completed profile information will now auto-populate corresponding sections in any future blank documents created.
