Abstract

The urodynamics of the lower urinary tract was evaluated in 25 children treated for enuresis. The unstable bladder was observed in 16 patients. Twelve children with detrusor hyperreflexia comprised the largest group. Acupuncture was beneficial in 17 cases. The follow-up showed its detrusor-stabilizing effects in patients with neurogenic bladder dysfunctions. The success of the therapy is depended on the patients' mental and emotional status, concurrent abnormalities and accuracy in observing the practitioner's recommendations. The mechanisms of therapeutic effects of acupuncture are also discussed.
