Device-related, nonintravascular infections

Crit Care Nurs Clin North Am. 1995 Dec;7(4):685-93.

Abstract

The intensive care environment is conducive to the transmission of microorganisms because of the array of medical equipment and the frequent contamination of the hands of health care workers. This article reviews recommended nursing interventions for the following nonintravascular devices: automatic implantable cardioverter defibrillators, chest tubes, peritoneal dialysis, enteral nutrition, electronic thermometers, oximeter sensors, and urinary drainage devices.
