An interviewing style for nursing assessment

J Adv Nurs. 1995 Feb;21(2):340-3. doi: 10.1111/j.1365-2648.1995.tb02531.x.

Abstract

The research literature on health care interviewing styles is reviewed. A critique of the traditional provider question-client answer style is offered, and an alternative style, the conversational interview, is advocated as more client-focused and less interpersonally controlling. The potential of the conversational interview to produce an accurate shared understanding of the client's health status is discussed.
