Abstract

PIP: Early and remote complications of artificial abortions in 1639 females performed between 1975-80 were analyzed. Social reasons for abortions accounted for 97% of cases, while medical indications resulted in 3%. Primigravidae undergoing artificial abortion amounted to 20% of the cases. The duration of pregnancy did not exceed 12 weeks. Early complications such as hemorrhage, inflammatory complications, and uterine perforations were analyzed. Remote complications included hemorrhage, inflammatory complications, anmd infertility. Among the early complications there was an incidence of 1.88% hemorrhage, 3.61% of inflammatory complications, and 0.24% of uterine perforations. In remote complications cases, hemorrhage amounted to 0.54%, inflammatory complications to 1.15%, and infertility to 0.24%. The number of complications increases with pregnancy duration, and in cases of pregnancy over 10 weeks, it amounts to 29.09%. The most frequent are inflammatory complications. (author's modified)
