Influence of intermittent hyperglycemic glucose levels on the phagocytosis of microorganisms by human granulocytes in vitro.

Abstract

Repeated brief exposures to glucose in concentrations of 0.8 g/100 ml significantly depresses in vitro phagocytic ingestion of opsonized Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria by human peripheral polymorphonuclear granulocytes (PMN's), while the same concentration of L-aminoacid mixtures (Freamine) under the same conditions has no influence on it.
