Abstract

Rearranging the topology of an optimized genetically encoded Ca2+ indicator produces a variant that retains the favorable properties of the original but also has new termini in closer proximity to the chromophore. Fusion of a bright luciferase to the new N terminus results in a highly effective glow-in-the-dark Ca2+ indicator.
