Abstract

Liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) is rapidly becoming the method or choice for measuring glucocorticoids due to significant interferences in traditional immunoassays by structurally related endogenous and exogenous steroids. The technique also lends itself to the measurement of more than one analyte during an analytical run without additional sample requirements and also the flexibility to develop assays for different sample matrices. Here methods are described for measuring a selection of glucocorticoids in serum, plasma, urine, and saliva using this state-of-the-art technology, which are all applicable to the routine clinical laboratory.
