Occup Ther Health Care. 1992;8(1):73-87. doi: 10.1080/J003v08n01_05.

Abstract

The author found the experience of evaluating orphans in Cambodia different from her expectations and it has changed her attitudes toward education and medicine. She suggests that all prospective orphans be evaluated by a therapist in order to anticipate the severity of potential problems. She also feels that occupational therapists must take an active role in affecting the lives of people in third world countries. The author discusses how her experience is shaping her professional goals since she returned from Cambodia.
