Abstract

Chagas disease is the leading cause of infectious myocarditis worldwide and its associated high morbidity and mortality result in a substantial public health burden. The most common clinical manifestations of the disease are congestive heart failure, thromboembolism and sudden cardiac death. However, both the clinical course of the disease and prognosis vary widely. Therefore, clinical decision-making depends on the identification of markers of a poor prognosis. This article contains a concise review of risk stratification in Chagas disease, with a focus on echocardiographic predictors of mortality.
