Myofibrils, the contractile organelles of muscle, are apt subjects for studies on the formation and function of actomyosin networks. Molecular genetic approaches are advancing our understanding of myofibril structure and assembly, and may offer a novel and useful approach for investigating the crossbridge cycle.
