Abstract

OBJECTIVE:

To investigate the application of prospective permutation space-time scan statistic in the early detection of infectious disease outbreaks.

METHODS:

The prospective permutation space-time scan statistic was tested by mimicking daily prospective analyses of measles data of Chengdu city in 2005.

RESULTS:

The prospective space-time permutation scan statistic could timely detect the outbreaks that start locally.

CONCLUSION:

The early warning system based on prospective space-time permutation scan statistic and geographical information system could work efficiently.
