When estrogen has been implanted in the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus of the rat, the size of the nucleoli of the neurons in this nucleus decreases, as determined by measurement of the mean diameters. These changes are accompanied by atrophy, similar to that caused by hypophysectomy, of the ovaries and uterus of the female or testes and accessory glands of the male.
