Abstract

OBJECTIVE:

This article will discuss how the word axial has developed into a synonym for transverse, and why this is incorrect usage when describing an anatomic plane.

CONCLUSION:

Radiologists should be aware of what these terms mean and use them appropriately. Journal editors are in a unique position to encourage this.
