Abstract

Rapid, unequivocal diagnosis of diabetes is essential to avoid the onset of complications in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. The signs and symptoms of diabetes can vary with individuals and therefore are not reliable for diagnosis. The World Health Organization has provided guidance concerning the diagnosis of diabetes and impaired glucose regulation. This makes use of venous blood glucose results, with or without symptoms, to enable a prompt and sound diagnosis.
