[Tubal ligation using Yoon's ring].

[Article in Spanish]

The use of Yoon's ring (a silicone band) to close the Fallopian tubes avoids some of the serious complications involved in the coagulation technique, such as hemorrhage and perforation. The ring was implanted in 50 subjects using minilaparotomy for those who could not undergo laparoscopy (3 cases), and laparoscopy with 1 incision for 21 cases and 2 incisions for 26 cases. The patients indicated no severe problems and after a total of 404 months without contraceptives, there were no pregnancies. Minilaparotomy, with necessary movement of the uterus and application of the bands, was considered to be the best technique in situations where personnel trained for laparoscopy are not available. It requires only local anesthetic and has a quick recovery rate. The results indicate that such surgical techniques to implant silicone rings are simple, effective, and should be included in family planning programs.
