J Trauma. 1976 May;16(5):371-3. doi: 10.1097/00005373-197605000-00008.

Thirty-nine head injured, initially comatose children with 44 femoral shaft fractures were treated by various methods. Thirty-two eventually ambulated. Tibial skeletal traction and skin traction were ineffective methods of management. Internal fixation or distal femoral traction are advised.
