A Baseline survey of I.P.P.-II District in Uttar Pradesh.

A baseline survey covering health, morbidity, family planning, maternal-child health, nutritional status of children, and service utilization in rural and urban areas is being undertaken as an aid to evaluation of a population project in the survey area. Systematic random samples of 30 households in each of 10 villages having primary health centers, 10 having subcenters, and 40 having no facilities will be interviewed in rural areas of 6 districts, while 35 households for each of 30 census blocks will be interviewed in urban areas of the 6 districts. An 8-part questionnaire schedule will be completed for each household by Lady Investigators. A Supervisor's Checklist provides for resurveying of some households to check the quality of the data. 60 Lady Investigators with post-graduate qualifications in social science or statistics and residing in the local area will each conduct 6 interviews per day in rural areas or 7 per day in urban areas. One full-time male team leader will supervise each team of 5 investigators and 2 other levels of supervision will ensure that data collected are accurate and complete. Actual data collection began in January 1981. The interview schedule is provided in an appendix.
