Agricultural approach on family planning: means to promote community health. A case from Glintang village, Sambi subdistrict, Boyolali regency

Vibro. 1994 Apr:(76):2-5.

Abstract

PIP: Glintang Village served from early 1989 through the end of 1991 as a test site for the Agricultural Approach on Family Planning communication support material. The program was a joint venture between the International Institute for Rural Reconstruction (IIRR)-Philippines and Yayasan Indonesia Sejahtera (YIS)-Indonesia to develop a model of communication support material allowing the target community to better understand the concept of family planning through an analogous agricultural approach. The materials were designed as a practical guide for rural populations in the form of largely pictorial flip-charts representing the experiences of target audiences. The concept and process of the approach are described. Health status improved markedly in the village over the period, both absolutely and compared with other villages which did not apply the approach. The contributions to improved health status of the local government-run Integrated Health Family Planning Services Post, the YIS-run Integrated Community Health Development Program, and the high motivation of local development actors are also noted.
