[A trend analysis of population structure by logit system: 1940-1980 (author's transl)].

[Article in Korean]

Abstract

PIP:

Population composition has been changed according to fertility transition and mobility of population as well as historic and other events. The purpose of this study was to compare the population composition during the last 40 years (1940-80) in Korea by the logit system. As for trend analysis of the population composition, the Brass' logist system is used because it has the advantage of being based on simple principle. This method uses a mathematical model instead of comparing with numbers or diagrams. It is a useful method especially when census data has not completely covered the object cases. As to the other merits of this method, the regression equation can reveal many other age compositions when the standard population is fixed and the parameters are changed. The reasons convince us that trend analysis of the population composition using a mathematical model is useful. According to the results of this study, older age groups are increasing in proportion and young people are declining in numbers. In conclusion, the population composition of Korea is being transformed into the western population model. (author's).
