A technique for measuring blood pressure in a medical evacuation helicopter

J Trauma. 1975 Nov;15(11):999-1002. doi: 10.1097/00005373-197511000-00010.

Abstract

In view of the increasing use of helicopters in the evacuation of patients in both military and civilian settings and the longer missions being flown, more efficient methods of monitoring patients' vital signs are needed. One such method has been evaluated utilizing the ultrasonic flowmeter to measure blood pressure. This study indicates that a reliable technique is now available for measuring systolic blood pressure even in low flow states in the noisy environment of a medical evacuation helicopter.
