Abstract

The management of microinvasive carcinoma of the cervix (MIC) has been ill-defined in the past and is a persistent focus of controversy. MIC with </= 3 mm of invasion-without lymphovascular space invasion (LVSI)-can be treated conservatively. In the presence of LVSI and invasion of up to 5 mm, a hysterectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy are recommended. These recommendations may be modified in individual patients who are concerned about fertility conservation.
