Mungbean is a tropical legume that is a significant source of dietary protein to the people of Asia and Africa. Mungbean and Vigna unguiculata, cowpea, are considered to be divergent but parallel evolutionary lineages in the genus Vigna. Both have used to elucidate potentially important orthologous sequences that may have significance in other Fabaceae such as Phaseolus vulgaris, described in Fatokun CA, et al..
