Residual maximal oxygen consumption response values were adjusted for age, sex, baseline body weight, and baseline maximal oxygen consumption (n = 473). RNA determinations were made using U133 Plus 2.0 Affymetrix chips, normalized using MAS5.0, and tested for differential expression using significance analysis of microarrays (SAM). In total, ∼1,000 probe sets were deemed differentially expressed (>1.5-fold change, <5% false discovery rate). Only 1 predictor/genetic association gene belonged to this group of regulated genes.
