Summary:
(Critical) This program presents six aspects of the activities of daily living such as personal hygiene, normal elimination, eating, range of motion, and assisting with an aid to ambulation. The physiology of the gastrointestinal system is briefly mentioned. The components of the feces are elaborated upon. Anabolism and catabolism are discussed. Types of bed pans and urinals are illustrated, as are the exercise of toes; brushing the patient's teeth and types of exercises preliminary to crutch walking. The presentation is tedious and contains many deficiencies such as failure to assure safety precautions by not checking the surgical site or assisting the patient while getting out of bed. It is also suggested that paralyzed patients need to be pushed "to the limits of their ability" without further elaboration. Because these skills are presented in a dangerous fashion, this program is not recommended.
