Clostridioides difficile

A common inhabitant of the colon flora in human infants and sometimes in adults. The type species Clostridioides difficile is formerly known as Clostridium difficile. It is a causative agent for CLOSTRIDIOIDES INFECTIONS and is associated with PSEUDOMEMBRANOUS ENTEROCOLITIS in patients receiving antibiotic therapy.

Year introduced: 2021(1991)

actin-specific ADP-ribosyltransferase, Clostridium [Supplementary Concept]

CdtA provides the enzyme activity and CdtB provides membrane-binding; do not confuse with cytolethal distending toxin (CdtB protein)

Date introduced: July 4, 2000

4.

tcdA protein, Clostridium difficile [Supplementary Concept]

a UDP-glucosyltransferase; related to antibiotic-associated or pseudomembranous colitis; causes accumulation of fluid in ligated intestinal loops of rabbits; GenBank M30307

Date introduced: June 21, 1984

5.

Clostridium Infections

Infections with bacteria of the genus CLOSTRIDIUM and closely related CLOSTRIDIOIDES species.

Year introduced: 1968

Clostridium difficile enterotoxin A receptor [Supplementary Concept]

Saccharomyces boulardii reduced toxin A receptor binding thereby reducing some of its enterotoxic effects

Date introduced: April 28, 1993

rRNA (adenosine-O-2'-)methyltransferase [Supplementary Concept]

forms 2'-O-methyladenosine; ermD protein methylates a specific residue on 23S rRNA to confer macrolide-lincosamide-streptogramin B resistance; EmrE specifically modifies 23S rRNA by N6,N6-dimethylation of A2058; has been sequenced; GenBank X82668 (EmrC)

Date introduced: September 8, 1982

glutamate 2,3-aminomutase, Clostridium difficile [Supplementary Concept]

homologous to lysine 2,3-aminomutase (LAM) in many other species but does not have the lysyl-binding residues Asp293 and Asp330 in LAM from Clostridium subterminale; partial amino acid sequence in first source

Date introduced: March 26, 2007

Cwp84 protein, Clostridium difficile [Supplementary Concept]

may be involved in degradation of host tissue integrity

Date introduced: November 14, 2007
