Chitin
A linear polysaccharide of beta-1->4 linked units of ACETYLGLUCOSAMINE. It is the second most abundant biopolymer on earth, found especially in INSECTS and FUNGI. When deacetylated it is called CHITOSAN.
Year introduced: 1972(1967)
Chitin Synthase
An enzyme that converts UDP glucosamine into chitin and UDP. EC 2.4.1.16.
Year introduced: 1991(1975)
Carbohydrate Binding Modules
