Transforming growth factor beta 1

A subtype of transforming growth factor beta that is synthesized by a wide variety of cells. It is synthesized as a precursor molecule that is cleaved to form mature TGF-beta 1 and TGF-beta1 latency-associated peptide. The association of the cleavage products results in the formation a latent protein which must be activated to bind its receptor. Defects in the gene that encodes TGF-beta1 are the cause of CAMURATI-ENGELMANN SYNDROME. [from MeSH]

MedGen UID:

Amino Acid, Peptide, or Protein; Biologically Active Substance; Pharmacologic Substance
2.

Progesterone

A synthetic form of the endogenous hormone progesterone. Progesterone binds to the progesterone receptor, resulting in dissociation of heat shock proteins, receptor phosphorylation, and transcription activation through direct or indirect interaction with transcription factors. This agent exerts inhibitory effects on estrogens by decreasing the number of estrogen receptors and increasing its metabolism to inactive metabolites. Progesterone induces secretory changes in the endometrium, decreases uterine contractility during pregnancy, and maintains pregnancy. (NCI04) [from NCI]

3.

Withdrawal

A social or emotional detachment, pathological retreat from objective reality, interpersonal contact and social involvement, as in some forms of schizophrenia, depression, or schizoid, avoidant, or schizotypal personality disorders. [from NCI]

Collagenase product

Collagenases are enzymes that degrade collagen fibers. These enzymes play an important role in connective tissue metabolism and are produced by specific cells involved in both repair and remodeling processes. [from NCI]

Protease preparation

A class of enzymes that catalyze the hydrolysis of peptide bonds in the interior of a polypeptide chain or protein molecule. [from NCI]

Amino Acid, Peptide, or Protein; Enzyme; Pharmacologic Substance
7.

Sex hormone

A class of steroid hormones that specifically binds to and activates androgen, progesterone or estrogen receptors. Sex steroids activate various signaling pathways involved in the development and maintenance of secondary sexual characteristics, reproductive processes, blood salt balance, response to stress, neuronal function and a number of metabolic processes. [from NCI]

Drug withdrawal symptoms in a fetus following maternal discontinuation or reduction of use of one or more addictive substance(s) that have caused fetal physiological dependence. [from NCI]
