SUMMARY back to top
Summary
The gene ace-4 encodes a rare form of acetylcholinesterase class C, closer to ACE-3 (with which it forms a direct tandem repeat) than ACE-1 or ACE-2 by sequence [Grauso et al, 1998; Combes et al, 2000]. Its activity is not detected in vivo. The usual sequence FGESAG surrounding the active serine residue in cholinesterases is changed to FGQSAG. ace-4 is expressed at least in L2 larvae [Kohara cDNA][Wormbase] ace-4 encodes an divergent acetylcholinesterase homolog with biochemically undetectable activity.

AceView synopsis, each blue text links to tables and details
According to AceView, this gene is expressed at high level, 1.7 times the average gene in this release. The sequence of this gene is defined by 4 cDNA clones and 18 elements defined by RNA-seq, some from l2 (seen once). We annotate structural defects or features in one cDNA clone.
The gene contains 16 distinct gt-ag introns. Transcription produces one mRNA. Variant a is transpliced to SL1.
Function: There are 6 articles specifically referring to this gene in PubMed. In addition we point below to one abstract. This gene is associated to a phenotype (abnormal ACEtylcholinesterase). Proteins are expected to localize in endoplasmic reticulum.
The spliced mRNA putatively encodes a good protein, containing carboxylesterase, type B domain [Pfam].
