Extraction protocol |
Retinal tissue was dissected free of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and placed in guanidine HCL. The samples were subsequently disrupted and homogenized using a rotor–stator (Polytron PT2100). Total RNA used for microarray studies was purified from a caesium chloride gradient produced by high-speed ultra-centrifugation.

Following fragmentation, cRNA was hybridized on the GeneChip Array and the GeneChips were washed and stained in the Affymetrix Fluidics Station 450 according to the standard Affymetrix protocol (Expression Analysis Technical Manual Rev. 2, 2005-2007, Affymetrix).
