Catkins were collected from mature P. balsamifera trees grown by Alberta Pacific Forest Industries Inc. in a field trial in Grassland, AB, Canada on April 30, 2007. Material was flash frozen in liquid nitrogen and then stored at -80°C until RNA was extracted.
