A set of 174 BAC/PAC clones was selected according to several considerations: (i) DNA from all these clones was commercially available (2 × 96 deep well blocks) from BACPAC Resources Center, CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL OAKLAND, Oakland, USA; (ii) all clones were FISH mapped, at least partially sequenced and their localization was approved using UCSC database; (iii) all clones were chr3 specific and covered the whole chromosome with a resolution of ~1 Mb.
