The Southern white rhino (Ceratotherium simum simum) is the most abundant rhino in the world today though as few as 50-200 of them were alive at the beginning of the 20th century. Native to the open woodlands and grasslands of Southern Africa, they are currently confined to isolated zoos, game preserves, and national parks.
