The long-tailed chinchilla (Chinchilla lanigera) is a rodent native to the mountains of northern Chile. It has been hunted for its dense, soft fur, and is considered critically endangered. Long-tailed chinchillas are omnivorous, mainly nocturnal, and live in colonies.
