Summary
In the absence of porins OmpF and OmpC (in an ompR mutant), NanC is required for the utilization of N-acetylneuraminic acid as a sole carbon source. [More information is available at EcoGene: EG12389]. Sequence similarity suggests that NanC is a member of the OmpG Porin (OmpG) family. nanC (yjhA) is the first gene in the yjhATS operon.
