Summary
IraM(ElbA) is involved in isoprenoid biosynthesis (Hemmi, 1998). [More information is available at EcoGene: EG13885]. In response to Mg2+ starvation, IraM inhibits proteolysis of the stationary phase sigma factor S by interacting with RssB, which would normally target S for degradation by the ClpXP protease . iraM expression is induced during Mg2+/Ca2+ starvation; regulation is dependent on PhoP .
