  1. The NagC mutants exhibiting this paradoxical behaviour have basic amino acids, arginine or lysine, at two critical positions of the recognition helix.

  2. This work identifies four amino acids in the linker region which allow NagC to distinguish between a C/G and an A/T bp at positions +/-11 of the operators.
