Summary
Enables GTP binding activity and GTPase activity. Involved in several processes, including Golgi to plasma membrane transport; ascospore-type prospore assembly; and membrane addition at site of cytokinesis. Located in mating projection tip and transport vesicle. Part of incipient cellular bud site. Used to study Dyggve-Melchior-Clausen disease and Smith-McCort dysplasia. Orthologous to several human genes including RAB10 (RAB10, member RAS oncogene family) and RAB8A (RAB8A, member RAS oncogene family). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Apr 2022]

General protein information

Preferred Names
Rab family GTPase SEC4
NP_116650.1
  • Rab family GTPase; essential for vesicle-mediated exocytic secretion and autophagy; associates with the exocyst component Sec15p and may regulate polarized delivery of transport vesicles to the exocyst at the plasma membrane; exocyst association is negatively regulated via phosphorylation by Cdc5p during cytokinesis
