Summary
TomloxC codes for a chloroplast-localized lipoxygenase that is involved in the synthesis of C5 and C6 volatile flavor compounds in tomato fruits and leaves. It can use both linoleic and linolenic acids as substrates. TomloxC is the major lipoxygenase specifically involved in the generation of C6 short-chain flavor compounds in tomato fruit. Synthesis of C5 and C6 green leaf volatile compounds increases with mechanical wounding of leaves but is not induced by X. campestris pv. vesicatoria infection. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2016]
