What's a GeneRIF?
  1. The authors show that amino acids 30-90 of pUL51 mediate interaction with pUL7. They also show that deletion of amino acids 167-244 of pUL51, or ablation of pUL7 expression both result in failure of gE to concentrate at junctional surfaces of Vero cells. Deletion of the gE gene strongly enhanced virus release to the medium in Vero cells, suggesting that the gE-dependent spread pathway may compete with virion release.

  2. This is the first report to identify the mechanism by which UL51 is regulated as well as the significance of UL51 phosphorylation in HSV-1 infection. Our study may provide insights into the regulatory mechanisms of other herpesviral UL51 homologs.
