Involved in negative regulation of cell population proliferation and peptidyl-lysine dimethylation. Acts upstream of or within histone methylation. Located in cytosol and nucleus. Is expressed in several structures, including heart; hemolymphoid system gland; nasal cavity epithelium; nervous system; and retina. Orthologous to human SMYD2 (SET and MYND domain containing 2).
