Summary
Enables SNARE binding activity and calcium channel inhibitor activity. Involved in several processes, including modulation of chemical synaptic transmission; regulation of synaptic vesicle priming; and signal release. Acts upstream of or within calcium-ion regulated exocytosis. Located in several cellular components, including axon; nuclear membrane; and secretory vesicle. Part of synaptobrevin 2-SNAP-25-syntaxin-1a complex. Is expressed in several structures, including central nervous system; intercostal muscle; male reproductive gland or organ; retina; and spinal nerve. Used to study disease of mental health. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease and Hirschsprung's disease. Orthologous to human STX1A (syntaxin 1A). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Nov 2024]

RefSeqs maintained independently of Annotated Genomes

These reference sequences exist independently of genome builds. Explain

These reference sequences are curated independently of the genome annotation cycle, so their versions may not match the RefSeq versions in the current genome build. Identify version mismatches by comparing the version of the RefSeq in this section to the one reported in Genomic regions, transcripts, and products above.

RNA

  1. NR_133683.1 RNA Sequence

    Status: VALIDATED

    Description
Transcript Variant: This variant (2) uses an alternate splice site in an internal exon compared to variant 1. This variant is represented as non-coding because the use of the 5'-most supported translational start codon, as used in variant 1, renders the transcript a candidate for nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD).
