Summary
This region represents the promoter of the cytochrome P450 family 2 subfamily D member 6 (CYP2D6) gene. This promoter is induced by binding of hepatocyte nuclear factor 4 alpha. Activity of this sequence may be further stimulated by Kruppel like factor 9 and peroxisome proliferator activated receptor alpha, and is suppressed by nitric oxide and estrogen. Naturally-occurring polymorphic sites in this region, including rs1080985 in the distal promoter, are associated with expression of CYP2D6 and may have phenotypic consequences.
