This variant lies in the RP1 gene (transcript NM_006269.2) at coding-DNA position 310, where T is replaced by C; at the protein level this means replaces tyrosine at residue 104 with histidine — a missense variant. Submitter rationale: This sequence change replaces tyrosine, which is neutral and polar, with histidine, which is basic and polar, at codon 104 of the RP1 protein (p.Tyr104His). This variant is not present in population databases (gnomAD no frequency). This missense change has been observed in individual(s) with autosomal recessive retinitis pigmentosa (PMID: 31047384, 32783370). In at least one individual the data is consistent with being in trans (on the opposite chromosome) from a pathogenic variant. ClinVar contains an entry for this variant (Variation ID: 871847).
