NC_000017.11:g.(?_43045658)_(43067715_?)del was classified as Pathogenic for Hereditary breast ovarian cancer syndrome by Labcorp Genetics (formerly Invitae), Labcorp, citing Invitae Variant Classification Sherloc (09022015): For these reasons, this variant has been classified as Pathogenic. Sub-genic deletion of exons 22-23 (also known as deletions of exons 23-24 in the literature) has been determined to be pathogenic (PMID: 16715518, 16793929, 17333342, 18431737, 24825132). Therefore, deletions that fully encompass that region are also expected to be pathogenic. A deletion of exons 16-23 in BRCA1 has been observed in an individual affected with ovarian cancer (PMID: 24825132). This variant is also known as Del exons 17-24 in the literature. This variant is a gross deletion of the genomic region encompassing exons 16-23 of the BRCA1 gene. The 5' boundary is likely confined to intron 15. The 3' end of this event is unknown as it extends through the termination codon beyond the assayed region for this gene and may encompass additional genes. While this deletion is not anticipated to result in nonsense mediated decay, it is expected to create a truncated protein product or disrupt mRNA translation.
