NC_000017.11:g.(?_43044336)_(43125483_?)del was classified as Pathogenic for Hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome by Labcorp Genetics (formerly Invitae), Labcorp, citing Invitae Variant Classification Sherloc (09022015): A gross deletion of the genomic region encompassing the full coding sequence of the BRCA1 gene has been identified. The boundaries of this event are unknown as the deletion extends beyond the assayed region for this gene and therefore may encompass additional genes. Deletions of the entire BRCA1 gene have been reported to segregate in individuals affected with breast or ovarian cancers in several families (PMID: 24686251, 16793929, 21281505). This change is also described as a deletion of exons 1-24 in the literature. Loss-of-function variants in BRCA1 are known to be pathogenic (PMID: 20104584). For these reasons, this variant has been classified as Pathogenic.
