Pathogenic for Duchenne muscular dystrophy — the classification assigned by Labcorp Genetics (formerly Invitae), Labcorp to NC_000023.11:g.(?_31348536)_(31479123_?)del, citing Invitae Variant Classification Sherloc (09022015): This variant is an out-of-frame deletion of the genomic region encompassing exons 58-61 of the DMD gene. This creates a premature translational stop signal and is expected to result in an absent or disrupted protein product. For these reasons, this variant has been classified as Pathogenic. Loss-of-function variants in DMD are known to be pathogenic (PMID: 16770791). A similar copy number variant has been reported in individuals affected with Duchenne muscular dystrophy in the Universal Mutation Database (PMID: 22144684).
